MVS - Minutes on Variable Stars
The final issue of the old MVS (Mitteilungen über Veränderliche Sterne) was published at April 15th, 1994 (Home et al., MVS 12.199).
The total digitization, launched in 2004, of the Sonneberg Plate Archive opens up the possibility to investigate variable stars and related objects in a much more efficient way. The expected results of raw and reduced light-curve data, processed data such as normalized light-curves, period analysis, or O-C tables are frequently “too simple” to be published in one of the big journals of astronomy. Nonetheless such data are important to be extracted and to be published. It is the main intention (but not a restriction!) of restarting MVS to offer a platform for these investigations of photographic plates of Sonneberg Observatory.
By keeping the acronym MVS, Minutes in Variable Stars is the continuation of Mitteilungen über Veränderliche Sterne. This new MVS started in 2013 with number 13-01. MVS will appear as an electronic journal only, consisting of files in the format pdf which seems to be reliably and universally enough for the next couple of years. The papers are technically prepared with great care. As a special feature, all tables are embedded as csv files to simplify data extraction out of the paper.
The series is devoted to investigation of virtually all photometrically variable objects on the sky with all their facets, such as observing results, theoretical elaborations, simulations, observing techniques, etc.
MVS is edited by Peter Kroll (pk at 4pisysteme.de) and Thomas Berthold (tb at 4pisysteme.de) of Sonneberg Observatory. The series appearing in English language only is open to everybody. Manuscripts should be written in English and, if possible, be prepared in LaTeX style. For details contact the editors.
